Peterlin, Broking, Sabraski, Blevins and McLynn hoist Hibbing checkers on Saturday

HIBBING, MN (June 15) - Kyle Peterlin, Sam Blevins, Johnny Broking, Shane Sabraski and Tristen McLynn parked their rides in victory lane Saturday night in Hibbing, as the raceway hosted a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action June 15.

Paul Ripley was the early leader of the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, ahead of Chad VanDuker and Sam Blevins. After several green flag laps, a get-together in turn four reset the field with five laps scored.

Blevins moved into second following the restart, with Ripley continuing to lead the charge out front. After a couple of laps, Blevins was able to sneak along the bottom into the lead, bringing Mervin Castle III along with him into second. Ripley settled in third, VanDuker was fourth and Mike Blevins, Sr. was into the top five. A caution for Jonny Nowak reset the field.

With the green in the air and seven laps left on the board, Sam Blevins drove back out to the lead, as Castle and Ripley fought back and forth for second, with Castle taking full control shortly after.

Sam Blevins drove on to the eventual victory, his second of the year, ahead of Castle, Ripley, VanDuker, and Blevins, Sr. in the top five.

Trevor Arens and Jim Campbell led the WISSOTA Super Stock field to the green flag, with Arens the early leader. Something appeared amiss with Campbell as he shuffled back through the field quickly, and Mikey Vajdl got by into second. Doug Koski was third, Sabraski was fourth, and it was nearly three wide for fifth.

Just ahead, Sabraski cruised by Koski into third and pressured Vajdl for second, taking the spot. A couple of laps later Sabraski moved his way by Arens along the inside line to the lead, as Arens was then under fire from Andy LaBarge for second. LaBarge took the runner-up spot soon after.

With Sabraski out front, LaBarge was close behind in second, Arens was steady in third, and Tristan LaBarge was up from 15th at the start into fourth, past Rick Simpson.

Sabraski was able to fend off the late-race challenges of Andy LaBarge and took the win. Andy settled for second, Arens was third, Tristan was fourth and Simpson rounded out the top five.

Kyle Peterlin shot out to the lead in the WISSOTA Late Models to begin their portion of the program, ahead of Mark Heinle and a side-by-side battle for third between Skeeter Estey and Ben Heinle.

With a third of the race in the books, Peterlin had a healthy advantage as he began to work through the backmarkers. Estey got by Mark Heinle into second at about the halfway point.

Peterlin struggled to get by the lapped car of Roger Paolo in the closing laps, allowing Estey to close back in quickly, but Peterlin hung on for the victory ahead of Estey, Ben Heinle, Danny Vang and Mark Heinle in the top five.

Jeff and Jeffrey Wood led the field of WISSOTA Modifieds to the green flag, but Mack Estey and Johnny Broking split the duo down the backstretch and were first and second coming to the start-finish line to complete the first lap, with Estey having a slight lead. A caution for Cole Chernosky reset the field with a lap complete.

Broking took the lead during the second lap when the field was back under green, followed by Estey in second, Jeffrey Wood and Bob Broking in a side-by-side battle for third, and Sabraski in the top five. Bob took the spot a couple of laps later, and Andrew Inman cracked the top-five shortly after that, as he drove by Sabraski.

With Johnny continuing to add to his advantage out front, Estey was under heavy pressure from Bob Broking for second with eight to go. The fight for position became spirited, but Estey held strong in the runner-up spot.

As the field fell into a single-file cadence, Johnny Broking drove on to the victory. He was followed to the checkered flag by Estey, Bob Broking, Jeffrey Wood, and Inman.

Tristen McLynn’s journey to the front in the WISSOTA Hornets came from outside of the second row, and it happened quickly, leading from the start. Though challenged in the waning laps by Justin Barsness, and having to survive a heart-stopping brush with a lapped car, McLynn hung on for the victory, as the top three were three wide at the finish line. Joseph Puidokas got by Barsness for second, Louis Skaja was third and Zeb Graves completed the top five in a thrilling feature.
