GREAT FALLS, MT (May 18) - On Saturday night, May 18, Ty Hample drove to the memorable - and emotional - victory in the Late Models to highlight WISSOTA Dirt Track Series racing at Electric City Speedway.
Hample, who arrived to the track solo, recently lost his father, Kelly, in April to cancer. Kelly was well-liked in the pits anywhere he went, and known for helping anyone who asked. Pit crews at ECS helped get Ty out on the track - one that was the type of track condition Kelly would have loved - and Ty paid the best kind of homage to his dad with the dominating win.
In victory lane he cleaned off the No. 36 memorial sticker above his number, and after the ceremonies, another group helped him get reloaded and back on the road to Billings.
Paul Leach improved three spots to second, Jeremy Castro was third, Jeremiah LaDue was fourth and Travis Shumate was fifth.
In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Mario Berger started inside the sixth row and slipped his way through the pack to the lead, taking the victory ahead of eighth-starter Joey Price, seventh-starter Tyler Leach, Michael Shure and C.R. Eisenzimer.
Luke Zampich ended his night in victory lane at Electric City, zipping to the WISSOTA Street Stock win ahead of Robert Petroff, Cail Tinker, Patrick Harvie and Dave Azure in the top five.
Cory Craver captured the IMCA Modified win, holding off the charge of ninth-starter Kolby Hannah for the win.
