Troftgruben leads list of River Cities winners on opening night, along with Hunter and Klostreich

GRAND FORKS, ND (May 10) - River Cities Speedway opened its doors to the 2024 season Friday, May 10. Winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action included Brody Troftgruben, Austin Hunter, and Seth Klostreich.

Lance Schill was the leader on the inital start in the WISSOTA Late Models, ahead of a battle for second between Strand and Troftgruben, before a caution for Tucker Pederson brought the field to a halt with no laps scored.

Following the restart, Troftgruben jumped out into the top spot, ahead of Schill, Strand, Greg Moore and John Seng.

With five laps complete, Troftgruben began to catch lapped traffic, as Schill and Strand battled for second right on his heels. Strand got by Schill on the bottom to take the spot, but as the field came back-around to the start-finish line, a caution in the back for a spun car brought the field to a rocky halt, with cars in the front of the pack then scattered into turn one; Strand and Schill were involved. Strand was taken off the track on the hook, while Schill continued.

Troftgruben led the field back to green, with Schill, Ryan Corbett, John Seng and Brad Seng behind in the top five. Corbett powered by Schill into second, as the Sengs battled for fourth. Corbett hit a rut and badly upset the car a lap or so later, retiring from the feature.

With eight laps to go, Troftgruben was again making his way through the back of the pack, with a straightaway advantage over Schill. Troftgruben drove on to the victory, as Schill, Brad Seng, ninth-starter Joey Pederson and Nathan Higginbotham completed the top five.

Austin Hunter and Reise Stenberg battled back and forth for the lead in the initial stages of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature. Hunter secured the spot with about four laps scored before a caution for debris reset the field.

Hunter jumped back out to the lead following the restart, with Jory Berg getting by Stenberg to second. Ted Doell and Matt Schow were top-five runners. Schow got by into third with 10 laps to go, while Stenberg left the track.

With five to go, Schow got by Berg and began to track down Hunter. As Hunter navigated lap traffic, Schow was right to his deck lid, but Hunter was able to pull back out with two laps left and drove off to the victory, his first of the season. Schow, Berg, Doell and Jamie Dietzler completed the top five.

Chris Dudley led the first lap of the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, before Seth Klostreich got by to the front to complete the second lap. Cole Greseth quickly moved into second from his fifth starting spot and was right on the bumper of Klostreich.

With six laps scored, Klostreich began to stretch his lead, as Greseth held second, and Aaron Blacklance was side by side with Dudley for third. Trey Hess was fifth.

Five laps later, Klostreich began to work through lapped traffic and Greseth closed back in. With four laps to go a caution for Greg Jose brought the field back together. Klostreich was able to hold on to score the victory, with Greseth and Blacklance nipping at his heels in the top three. Dudley and Hess completed the top five.

Jade Hastings and Dexter Dvergsten were winners in the Sprint classes to close out the evening’s program.
