Myers scores first career Super Stock feature win while Mahder, Hallquist, Koehler and Hanson also win at Red Cedar

MENOMONIE, WI (May 10) - Steve Hallquist ended his long winless streak at Red Cedar Speedway Friday night in the Modifieds, and Alex Myers earned a career first in the Super Stocks, highlighting WISSOTA Dirt Track Series racing at the Menomonie, WI race track May 10.

Other WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Chad Mahder, Nick Koehler, Alex Myers, and Andrew Hanson. Brandon Gleiter was victorious in the track’s Hornet feature.

Hallquist burst out to the lead and looked untouchable early on in the Modifieds, but a late-race caution tightened things up. On the restart Hallquist continued as the leader but Mike Anderson challenged Hallquist along the bottom side of the track, and pulled alongside him. Hallquist was not be denied, however, and drove off to the win followed by Anderson, Justin Weinberger, Jason Richardson and Shane Halopka in the top five.

Alex Myers led the field to green in the Super Stock division. Myers and Avery Anderson battled for the lead early on and after several circuits, Myers secured the top spot as he ran the smooth bottom lane.

As the race rolled on Curt Myers made his way into second and began to reel in his son. Curt closed in, but was never able to make a move. As the two drivers out front began to pull away, Terran Spacek was on the charge to the front, but appeared too far away to be in contention. A caution flag then flew and led to a green, white, checkered finish.

On the restart Spacek jumped to the outside of both Myers and tried to steal the show. Alex held strong out front, as Curt and Spacek fought for second. Alex drove on to his first career feature win. Terran Spacek was second followed by Curt, Tommy Richards and Kolby Kiehl.

Early Late Model feature leader Greg Nippoldt appeared to have a runaway in the Late Models, but a wrong move in lapped traffic midway through the race cost him dearly. Nippoldt moved to the high side of the speedway to get by a lapped car, which allowed Chad Mahder to cut his lead to a car length. Mahder shot to the inside of Nippoldt and never looked back. Mahder raced to the win followed by Nippoldt, James Giossi, Mark Hessler and Mike Anderson.

Nick Koehler was the early leader in the Midwest Modified division. Koehler separated himself from the field and started to drive away. Travis Anderson and Shadow Kitchner battled for second, while Steve Haas and Brandon Jensen fought for top-five positions behind them. Jensen passed Haas and slipped by Kitchner into third. Koehler remained the leader while Jensen moved past Anderson for second. Out front, Koehler’s lead was too much for Jensen to overcome and he took the win followed by Jensen, Kitchner, Anderson and Haas.

Andrew Hanson (Brent Creaser Photo)

Andrew Hanson continued his winning ways in the Street Stocks. Hanson darted to the lead early as a battle ensued behind him among Hunter VanGilder, Cody Kummer and Gunnar Watkins.

Hanson continued to lead as a caution flew toward the end of the race. On the restart VanGilder challenged Hanson on the outside, but Hanson held strong and drove away to the win. He was followed by VanGilder, Kummer, Sam Fankhauser and Watkins.

Shawn Poston and Jon Schutts led the field to green in the Red Cedar Speedway Hornet division, but they were quickly eclipsed by Jeff Schmitt and Chad Halterman. Halterman and Schmitt raced side by side for several laps, closely followed by Brandon Gleiter and Jason Bauer, who were also side by side. All four drivers sliced and diced lap after lap, exchanging the lead multiple times.

While the race began to wind down Gleiter secured the top spot and drove off to the win followed by Bauer, Brian Schott, Chad Halterman and Jeff Schmitt.
