In the final laps the two front-runners went at for the win, with Adams trying both high and low and Anderson fighting off all challenges. Anderson took the win ahead of Adams by one car length, as Copp ran a consistent race and came home third. It was Anderson’s 57th career Modified feature win at Rice Lake.

Another driver with a shining record at Rice Lake Speedway over the years started off 2024 on a solid note, as Curt Myers led from start to finish to take the Super Stock main event. It was not an easy win for the Cameron driver, however, as he was challenged at least twice by other drivers for the top spot.

Early on, Myers was challenged by Shawn McFadden, who started in the second row and passed Tucker Quinn to move into second. He was riding Myer's rear bumper in the early going. By the halfway point of the race, the top two continued to run in the same order, while Eric Olson and Simon Wahlstrom moved into the top five. At this point, Wahlstrom was making the most moves, as he went to the cushion of the track and found it to his liking. He stormed up to third as the yellow flew for a stalled car on lap 15.

Wahlstrom then gave Myers his most significant challenge of the race, as he again went to the top side of the track and drew almost even with the leader when the yellow flew once again for a two car spin.

This set up a three-lap dash to the finish and Myers then laid down his best laps of the race. Wahlstrom followed, but was not able to produce a serious challenge again. Myers drove home for the win, as McFadden was third, Kyle Copp engineered a ninth-to-fourth charge, and Eric Olson completed the top five.

It was Myers’ 49th career Super Stock feature win at Rice Lake and his 373th overall win on dirt tracks in the upper Midwest.

Landyn Randt (Cody Papke Photo)

A tight two-car battle for the win in the Midwest Modified feature featured a pair of high schoolers battling it out to the victory. Landyn Randt sprinted to the early lead from the pole, chased by Mike Schnider and David Simpson. Those two had a good battle for the second spot as they swapped the position back and forth.

Meanwhile Adams, who started eighth, was on the move quickly as he raced into the top five and then continued to press as he marched forward. He got by Simpson and then Schnider to move into second and then set out to catch leader Randt.

Adams push his hardest during the last several laps, but Randt was in his groove and refused to be flustered as he maintained his line, holding him off by a car length for the win. Simpson was third, Schnider was fourth, and Jake Stai completed the top five. It was Randt’s second-ever Midwest Modified feature win at Rice Lake, having scored his initial one last year.

The Pure Stock feature was also a two-car battle to the finish, but this one was not scored complete until post-race tech. Bob Wahlstrom started from the pole and led from start to finish in this race. Jake Smith moved into second until he was passed by Brent Mindock. By this time, Wahlstrom built up a considerable lead but Mindock was slowly cutting into that advantage.

With five laps to go, the advantage was slipping quickly as Mindock continued to cut into the Wahlstrom lead. As the white flag waved, Mindock caught Wahlstrom and the race was on. Mindock tried to get outside of Wahlstrom in the final corner and the race, but Wahlstrom held on by a half car length over Mindock.

In post-race tech a braking issue was found on two of the top five, including Wahlstrom. The adjusted finish scored Mindock the winner with Smith finishing second and Trenten Holub completing the podium. Skylar Findley and Trevor Phillips were top five finishers.

It was the first win ever at Rice Lake for Mindock, the Prentice veteran.

Racing action continues next Saturday night at Rice Lake Speedway on Red Cedar Speedway night at the track. All five classes will be in action once again with the new starting time of 6 p.m. in effect. The evening will begin with the announcement of the Best Appearing race car in each class, which was judged during opening night.
