Red Cedar lifts the lid on ‘24 as Mars, Adams, Spacek, VandeKamp and Kummer top Randy Buss Icebreaker
By Brent Creaser
MENOMONIE, WI (April 12) - Red Cedar Speedway featured the Randy Buss Ice Breaker Classic season opening event Friday, April 12. It was several years since the speedway was able to have a season opening event so early in April, and fans turned out in big numbers for the lid-lifter.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Sam Mars, Kevin Adams, Jason VandeKamp, Terran Spacek, and Cody Kummer.
Nick Panitzke and Sam Mars led the field to green in the WISSOTA Late Model feature event. Panitzke shot out to the early lead, as Mars challenged to the inside. Panitzke continued to hold the top honors, running his preferred higher line on the track. Mars closed in and charged the corner hard, shot to the inside of Panitzke, and was able to gain full control of the lead. Mars did not look back from there and secured the win, his first WISSOTA Late Model feature win at Red Cedar Speedway. He was followed by a late-charging Chad Mahder in second, as Panitzke, Tyler Peterson and John Kaanta rounded out the top five.
The WISSOTA Modifieds had a familiar face at the front of the field, led to the green by multi-time national champion Kevin Adams. The famous No. 40 Modified set out into the early lead over Kennedy Swan at a torrid pace.
Through many cautions, Adams continued to lead. A late-race caution set up a green-white-checkered shootout. Swan did not give up and pushed Adams hard, but Adams was just too strong and drove on to the feature win. He was followed by Swan, Chernosky, Shane Halopka and Dan Larson, Jr. in the top five.
Jesse Redetzke and Terran Spacek, two of the top contenders in the WISSOTA Super Stocks at the speedway, led the field to green. Redetzke jumped out front early as Spacek pursued. Spacek continued to pressure Redetzke, as Matthew Larson and Curt Meyers made their way to the front.
Spacek eventually moved to the inside of Redetzke, as he made his move for the lead. Redetzke bobbled and tagged Spacek, spinning him. Redetzke was charged with the caution and Spacek retained his spot as the leader of the race on the restart. Spacek was not challenged as he took the checkered flag. Myers was second, followed by Larson, Dan Nissalke and Ron Mahder.
