Davenport puts a Superman slider on Erb to take Friday show; Nothdurft 17th

From DirtOnDirt.com Staff Reports

GIBSONTON, FL (Feb. 9) – Taking the lead for good with a lap-29 slider past Tyler Erb, second-starting Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA paced the remaining distance to capture Friday night's 50-lap fifth round of the 48th annual Wieland Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park. Davenport, who registered two third-place finishes before Thursday's runner-up, overcame a lap-13 slip that handed the lead to Erb to earn $12,000 for his first victory of the season.

The third-starting Erb led laps 13-28 before he experienced a failed right-front suspension and Davenport slid by to reclaim the lead; Erb pulled off on lap 30 and was credited with 24th.

“For sure I thought I gave it away there when I messed up in (turns) one and two (on lap 13),” Davenport said. “We made one little shock adjustment there before the feature that made this thing a bear to handle, but we know not to do that anymore. Man, I’m out of breath ... I’m gonna have to quit eating cheeseburgers and starting running or something.”

It was the 72nd full-field Lucas Oil Series win of Davenport's career and his eighth Winternationals triumph at East Bay. Ninth-starting Hudson O'Neal challenged Davenport in the closing laps to no avail and finished 1 second back. Eighth-starting Daulton Wilson grabbed third from Garrett Alberson on lap 46 and completed the podium finishers. Ashton Winger improved 14 positions to round out the top five.

Renner, South Dakota’s Blair Nothdurft started seventh and finished 17th, following a second-place run in his heat race.
