VADO, NM (January 12) - The Modifieds and X Mods were back in action Friday night, for the first of three straight nights to close out Wild West Shootout action at Vado Speedway Park.

The X Mods were up first, led to green by Mike Rosales and Mike Anderson. A spin by Asa Flores brought the field to a halt before the lap could be called complete.

On the second go, Rosales was the early leader, with Anderson in second, Flores in third, Jacob Hodges in fourth and Kris Jackson in fifth. Jackson moved to third to complete the lap, and Solander followed behind into fourth along the ultra high line.

With four laps complete, Rosales continued to lead, as Anderson succumbed to Jackson, who drove into second, and Solander continued to hang out along the high side in fourth. Rivera was fifth.

As the field completed lap five, Solander picked off Anderson for third.

Over the next several laps, Jackson and Solander began to quickly track down Rosales for the lead; as they came to the start/finish line to complete lap nine, they were three wide for the lead. Farther back, Lisbon, North Dakota’s Nate Reinke had cracked the top 10 in ninth.

Jackson took the lead and Solander moved into second one lap later. Jackson and Solander then began a battle for the top spot, with Jackson along the low lane and Solander sticking to the high side. The cushion proved tricky for Solander, who allowed Jackson to escape out front with a healthy lead.

With five to go, Solander continued to struggle along the cushion in second, and was under fire from Rivera in third and Rosales close in fourth. Reinke continued to hold ninth, while Marion, North Dakota’s Lucas Rodin worked his way into the top 10.

Out front, Jackson had a two second advantage, as he began to approach lapped traffic. Rivera took second from Solander, Rosales was fourth and Haddox was fifth. Reinke was ninth, and Rodin was 11th.

Jackson drove off to the victory, with Rivera, Solander, Rosales, Haddox in the top five. Reinke was eighth at the stripe, and Rodin was 11th.

Chris Henigan and Tyler Wolff led the Modified feature to the green, with Wolff motoring into the early lead. Ramirez got under Henigan for second, while Lake Shore, Minnesota’s Dan Ebert raced to the inside of Tanner Mullens for fourth. Ebert took the spot with four laps scored.

With six laps complete, Mullens spun alone to reset the field.

Wolff led the restart, followed closely by Ramirez and Ebert, who were side by side for second. O’Neil was fourth and Phillips was fifth. One lap later Ebert took the spot from Ramirez, but hit an inside tire shortly after and began to struggle with the handling on the No. 60.

Wolff continued to lead out front, ahead of Ramirez, O’Neil, Ebert and Ahumada Jr. With nine laps complete, Ramirez had sudden mechanical issues and left the track. During the caution period, Ebert also left the track with his sustained damage.

Wolff led the field back to green, with 14 to go. O’Neil hustled his way into second, Ahumada, Jr. followed through to third, Terry Phillips was now in fourth along the ultra high line of the race track, and Chatfield, Minnesota’s Lucas Schott was in fifth.

Phillips took third two laps later and looked ahead to O’Neil in second. Wolff was under heavy pressure from O’Neil, but continued to lead with 10 to go.

With eight laps to go, O’Neil slid by Wolff into the lead. Phillips was third, Ahumada, Jr. was fourth and Cade Dillard was fifth when the caution fell for a dustup between Eleva, Wisconsin’s Calvin Iverson and Henigan.

With seven to go, the green flag flew once again. O’Neil powered out to a fantastic start, as Phillips took second from Wolff down the backstretch. Dillard was fourth and Ahumada was fifth. As the field entered corner one, Dillard spun Wolff, who came to a complete stop, and the field was reset once again.

O’Neil led the restart as Phillips took second, Ahumada was third, Dillard was fourth and Gallardo was up into fifth. The top four were side by side for position entering turn four with four laps to go. O’Neil, Phillips, Ahumada, Dillard and Gallardo held their top-five spots.

With two to go, Phillips made his move to the outside of O’Neil for the lead, and hung on for the victory ahead of O’Neil, Dillard, Ahumada, and Gallardo in the top five. Schott was sixth, completing his drive from 17th on the grid.
