Dillard doubles down during first night of Vado action; Minnesota’s Sorensen 7th

VADO, NM (January 6) - The 18th annual Wild West Shootout began Saturday, January 6 with a 40-lap, $11,000-to-win feature for unsanctioned Super Late Models. There were a handful of Midwesterners on hand, but the night belonged to Louisiana’s Cade Dillard.
Dillard, who started from the front row, led every lap Saturday to clinch his first WWS victory since 2019, which came at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, AZ. Polesitter Bobby Pierce, of Oakwood, IL, briefly nosed ahead on lap 34 before Dillard edged him at the line by 0.048 of a second and pulled away to win by 0.289 of a second at the checkers. Garrett Albertson, Tyler Erb, and 14th-starter Kyle Larson completed the top five.
Mike Marlar was sixth, Rochester, Minnesota’s Dustin Sorensen was seventh, Chase Junghans was eighth, Tyler Stevens was ninth, and Kaden Honeycutt completed the top 10.
Of the other upper Midwesterners on hand, former multi-time WISSOTA National Champion Ricky Weiss was 17th, North Dakota’s Jason Strand was 19th, and Menomonie, Wisconsin’s Sam Mars was 25th.
